In Loving Memory of Louis “Jay” Reeg III
Louis Jacob "Jay" Reeg III passed away peacefully in his Scituate home on March 13th, 2026, with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A man who lived life entirely on his own terms, Jay leaves behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity, artistic passion, and steadfast love of his family.
Jay was the beloved husband of Janice Colombi and the proud and devoted father of Madeleine (Maddie). Born to Louis Jacob and Paula Reeg, he is survived by his sisters, Paula Reeg McGuffin (Donnie) of Tomball, TX, and Pamela Reeg Doyle (John) of San Antonio, TX, as well as six nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews
To the art world, Jay was a leading figure of preservation and history. A prominent collector and a recognized authority on The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol, he served on the Board of Directors for The Andy Warhol Museum from 2002 to 2014. His contributions went far beyond financial support; he was a vital voice in the discourse on 1960s counterculture, notably authoring the tribute to Lou Reed for the Warhol archives in 2013. He was an active fixture of the Boston arts scene and a significant donor to the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), helping to bolster their contemporary and experimental collections.
Beyond his work in the technology sector, Jay’s private life was anchored by a profound love of books and the power of sound. He curated an extensive personal library and a meticulous music collection that served as both a sanctuary and a source of constant inspiration.
Jay’s sharp mind and dedication to archival preservation ensured that the "cool" and the "counterculture" he loved would be protected for future generations.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday 3/21/2026 from 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider a donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank or a food bank of your choice, honoring Jay’s spirit and legacy of giving back to his community.
