Obituary

Listen to Obituary

For 87 years, Margaret “Peg” McGrail, of Dorchester, Quincy and Braintree, brought love to all she met. Peg died peacefully on June 10, 2026, surrounded by her family with prayer, music, and love. She was the beloved wife of Bill Kelly; only months ago, they marked their 65th wedding anniversary amid hundreds of family members and friends. She was the daughter of Hugh and Margaret McGrail, from whom she inherited her Irish sparkle, and the sister of Hugh “Fran” and John (deceased.)

Peg was the cherished mother of six children: Fr. Bill Kelly, Paul (Marybeth), Mary Jo (Tom), Stephen (Cheri), Annie (Basil), and Janice (Paul). She also had seventeen grandchildren whom she adored, and whom they adored in return! No occasion took place without Bammy there to cheer them on! She loved taking care of her home; she was tireless in her attention to her parents; and, for 10 years, worked as an office assistant at the Bureau of Prisons in Boston.

Peg was a woman of deep Catholic faith, a faith that animated her whole life. She was a rock in stormy times and brought warmth to every encounter. Her reminder to “put the Holy Spirit in the middle of it” has entered the lexicon of her family and friends.

Peg was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and a loyal friend. More people than you could count called her “Mom.”

Please pray for her and know that she is praying for you.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 6/17/2026 from Sacred Heart Church from  3-7, 386 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the church at 9:30 AM on Thursday 6/18/2026 prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph. See www.Keohane.com for directions and online condolences.
