Margaret R. “Peggy” (Kelly) Fanning, of Hingham, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, March 16, 2026. She was 91.
Peggy was born in Boston on February 11, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Mary (Driscoll) Kelly. She was raised in Wollaston, attended St. Gregory's School and graduated from North Quincy High School. Peggy worked in the Acturial department of John Hancock after graduation.
Peggy is predeceased by her former husband, Richard E. Fanning, Sr. whom she married in 1955. The couple settled in Hingham. She is survived by their five children, Richard E. Fanning, Jr. of Marshfield, Kathleen Horte of Wareham, Karen Craig and her husband Paul of Weymouth, Lisa Worth and her husband Dave of Cornish, New Hampshire and Dianne Hanlon and her husband Larry of Pembroke. Beloved Grandmother "Nanny" of Jeremy and Lyndsie Craig, Katelyn Horte, Erin Craig and Travis and Dillon Hanlon. Great Grandmother of Nicholas McWalter, Matthew, Kyle, Allison and Brianna Craig. Sister of the late Mary Edson and Helen Smith and loving sister of Alice Coletta and Brother-In-Law Eugene Fanning, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
She retired from the Hingham Middle School in 2015 after a 40 year career as Cook/Manager. Peggy loved and was devoted to her family and her church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed game nights and camping with her family. She was a talented cook and baker and beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be forever missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Route 18 opposite of South Shore Hospital).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday, March 23, 2026, prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.
Services will conclude with interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
