Listen to Obituary

Margaret Anne Kerr, age 85, formerly of Hingham and Brewster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026. A beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, she leaves behind a legacy of love, lifelong learning, and devotion to her family.

Born on February 13, 1941, to the late Edward and Margaret (Dwyer) Horan, she grew up in East Weymouth and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School. Margaret became the first person in her family to attend and graduate college. Her passion for culture and language took root at Regis College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962, majoring in Spanish and minoring in Italian. She shared this gift early in her career as a Spanish teacher on Cape Cod.

In 1965, Margaret married Kenneth Kerr, and together they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Margaret temporarily stepped away from teaching to devote herself to raising their three children. As her children grew into young adults, Margaret returned to her passion for language, serving as a substitute teacher at Hingham High School and later taking a full-time position at Notre Dame Academy, where she inspired students for over a decade.

Outgoing, driven, and fiercely loving, Margaret was the heart and driving force of her family. She instilled in her three children a sense of adventure and a confidence to embrace new experiences, challenge themselves, explore the world, and pursue their interests with determination and purpose.

Margaret enjoyed spending summers on Cape Cod, where she loved long days at the beach. She had many hobbies and interests, including painting, playing tennis, and taking walks with friends. Margaret also loved to travel and took many trips exploring new places and revisiting favorite spots with her family and friends over the years.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Kenneth D. Kerr, her parents, as well as her brother Edward Horan. She was the loving mother of Scott Kerr and his wife Hiroko of Tokyo, Japan, Brian Kerr and his wife Kimberly of Hingham, and Lisa Kerr and her husband Ramiro Ferrey of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She was the adored grandmother of Sophie, Kotaro, Brendan, Leo, Alex, and Nicholas. She is also survived by her nephews Paul and Matthew. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 12 PM-2 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Margaret’s memory to Notre Dame Academy.
