Margaret ”Peggy” Flaherty of South Weymouth died after a brief illness on September 29 2025.
Peggy was born in Weymouth on September 16,1952 to the late Robert and Catherine Flaherty and grew up in Braintree, attending St. Coletta’s Day School. In 1970, Peggy participated in the first state-wide Special Olympics held in Boston and won medals in both Track and Aquatics. After graduation, Peggy continued to participate in community leagues in bowling, basketball and softball throughout the South Shore. She served as assistant softball coach with the South Braintree Softball League. Peggy especially loved attending monthly dances sponsored by The Arc of the South Shore with her life-time companion, Billy Eno, who were classmates at St. Coletta’s. Peggy also enjoyed summer camp at the Camp Fatima Exceptional Week with her 1:1 counselor, Maryann Kahler. Peggy especially loved long car rides on Sundays and vacations, driving to multiple locations throughout New England and Canada with her mother and sister, Patty.
Peggy was employed at the Franvale Nursing Home as a housekeeping aide and food service worker for 16 years until its sale. She continued to work thereafter in multiple sheltered workshops throughout the South Shore.
Peggy spent her most recent years living in a group home in South Weymouth managed by Delta Projects, where she met and loved the many staff throughout her time there, as well as her housemates Dennis, John and David. She spent her days at the Rockland Dayhab, an activities program for adults with disabilities.
Peggy is survived by her sisters Patty McMahon of Braintree and Katie and her husband John White of Weymouth, her nephew Sean White, her nieces Meghan Flaherty and Bridget and her husband Bobby Fitzgibbon and their son Jack of Weymouth. Peggy also leaves behind her dear friend Billy Eno and many loving cousins. Peggy was pre-deceased by her parents Robert and Catherine Flaherty, her brothers Kevin Flaherty and Brian Flaherty, and her niece and husband, Michelle and Jason Lundquist.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday 10/6/2025 from 8:30-10 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square), followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peggy’s memory maybe made to he Arc of the South Shore, Attention: Development Office, 20 Pond Park Road, Unit 113, Hingham, MA 02043.
