Marian J. Maciag, died on August 29, 2026. Marian was born on Jane Street on the south side of Pittsburgh. She attended elementary and high school at St. Adalbert Parish, which nurished her love for God and teaching. After graduating high school she entered the Felician Sisters convent in Coraoplis, PA. She was sent out to teach immediately while carrying a full load of 21 credits at Duquesne University to earn her Bachelors and Masters degrees. Her love for learning earned her another hundred credits beyond her Masters degree. Marian taught in the Tri-State area during her 21 years as a teacher and principal.

Prompted by the Lord, Marian was led in a new direction to Boston. She taught in the Boston Public School System for another 23 years, requesting to teach in the poorest, most disadvantaged areas. This was during the Boston desegregation busing crisis. As a woman ahead of her times, Marian valued personal independence and professional development, further educating herself up until the age of 90, taking courses at Regis College. Education was so very important to her that she nurtured friends and family even financially, going so far as to educating 3 Haitians, one who became a priest, another a dentist and the other with an enriched life. She also sponsored the education of a Polish immigrant.

Her love for the arts enriched her friends and her generosity allowed them to attend cultural events including the symphony, ballets and the opera. Her joy of cooking always welcomed a knock at the door for friends to come in and share a meal. She was a fabulous cook. Her legacy is one of love, joy, kindness and sharing. The true mark of a life well lived.

Marian was on her last journey back to Pittsburgh to deliver a very special piece of art work created by her late sister Sr. Mary Angela. It was her wish to have this piece hang in the convent where her late sister dedicated so many years. Marian accomplished her wish and in her own words, “ this is my last hurrah”.

Marian lived a profoundly compassionate life, dedicated to educating others. She exemplified selflessness and dedication. Her life stands as a testament to the power of compassion and service to make a difference in the lives of others. She will be dearly missed.

Marian was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Frances D. (Rapczynski) Maciag. Sister of the late Sr. Mary Angela Maciag, and the late Rita Stanich. Aunt of Robert Stanich and his former wife Nancy Stanich both of FL, Sylvia DeSimone of PA and Dr. John Stanich of Indianapolis. Great aunt of Jonathan Stanich of CA, Robert Stanich, Jr and his wife Jen of Windermere, FL, and Michael DeSimone and his wife Molly, Amara DeSimone of VA. Dear friend of Ginny Connolly of Milton.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, Sept. 8th, 2026 from 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM Wednesday, Sept. 9th, 2026 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Elizabeth's Church, Milton, at 10 AM.
