Marie E. Abbruzese-Keegan passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2024 at the age of 98. Those who were lucky enough to know Marie will be forever grateful to have been able to spend time with such an amazing woman. Her zest for life could be found in the ease with which she laughed, the delight she took in a good meal, and her eager anticipation of new encounters and adventures. She grew up on Lake Street in Weymouth, MA surrounded by her large Italian family. Though she was raised during the Great Depression, she found joy in Sunday hot chocolate with her father and sneaking out to dances. Marie first worked as a telephone operator and then as a hairdresser at her brother Louie’s Trim & Style. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed bingo (and could easily play 20 cards at once), dabbled in oil painting, and treasured time with her family and friends.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Edward G Keegan & her daughter Diane M Keegan-Dempsey. She is survived by her sons Daniel Keegan & his wife Sandra of Plymouth, MA / Hernando, FL and Richard Keegan of Falmouth, MA. Marie had eight grandchildren: the late Lynn Keegan-Smith, David Keegan, Danielle Keegan-Messina, Jaime Keegan, Caleb Keegan, Erin Dempsey-Macey, Shawn Evans and Brian Evans, as well as sixteen great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews & cousins. Marie was sister to the late Domenic, Louis & Matilda Abbruzese-Dibona.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org). A service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, East Weymouth, on May 10th, at 10:30am; condolences will be received before the Mass. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery following church services, with a celebration of life following the burial.
