Mark Alfred Martin Solander, 29, of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away at home on November 9th, 2024, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.
Mark was born in Boston on February 16th, 1995, and was raised in his family home in Quincy Point. Mark enjoyed the many family vacations and gatherings as well as helping his father with home projects.
A graduate of Quincy High School class of 2013 Mark played on the Lacrosse and Football teams, as well as participated in the Junior ROTC and SkillsUSA programs. He was inducted into the National Honors Society in 2012. A Wentworth Institute of Technology alumni, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer networking in August 2017, and won several awards with the school's radio station, (WIRE). Mark spent six years working with Akamai Technologies as a Platform Operations Engineer where he handled alert monitoring and both internal and external network connectivity issues. His expertise with the servers and workstations made him an essential member of the hardware team, addressing diverse infrastructure challenges and stepping in as lead when required.
The words that are heard frequently when describing Mark were "kind" and "caring". Mark made it a point to consider others first and shared his love through his generosity and willingness to lend a hand. He loved and supported all his family and friends with everything that he had to give. Mark was a foodie and enjoyed cooking, he loved playing video and tabletop games with his friends and couldn't get enough of anything fantasy or sci-fi related. Mark enjoyed spending time with family and relatives, especially during the holiday season. He was usually found helping his father, Dale, with the cooking duties.
Friendship began between Mark and Nia in 2009 and blossomed into love beginning in 2017. Married September 3rd, 2022, they enjoyed two years together alongside their cat, Mark's first pet, Luna. The married couple enjoyed exploring and engaging in new experiences.
