Mary Ann Finneran

MaryAnn Finneran, 83 of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, surrounded by her family and friends. MaryAnn was born in Dorchester on January 22, 1942. She was the devoted wife of the late Frederick Finneran, a loving mother to the late Julie Finneran and the big sister to the late Peggy Murray. She is also predeceased by her brothers James Davey and Martin Davey.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Marybeth Finneran and Debbie DiGuiseppe, James and Susan Finneran, David and Jody Finneran, Laura Finneran, and Rick and Jessie Finneran. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Chris, Paul, and Samantha Finneran, Michael and Ryan Finneran, Austin and Katerina Finneran as well as many nieces and nephews.

MaryAnn was devout in her Catholic faith and it was her faith that sustained her during difficult times in her life. Due to her faith and natural love for people, she was a friend to everyone she met; from the grocery store cashier to the diner waitress, to the gentleman holding the door at church, to executives and physicians where she worked; there wasn’t a soul that Mary Ann wouldn’t have a friendly and meaningful conversation with.

Even at times when her friendly nature slowed you down or delayed your plans, her geniality was a wonderful reminder of how important and meaningful it is to take the chance to get to know everyone you meet and to do it an authentic and caring way. She had an unbelievable ability to recall everyone’s names and details about their lives and her gift of kindness and positivity helped everyone she knew to feel special in her presence.

MaryAnn loved holidays and parties but above all, she would never miss a birthday. She would call on your special day to sing your special birthday song; if you didn’t pick up the phone she would leave it on a voicemail. She would never miss a chance to call you at midnight to wish you happy new year.

As a mother, she made it a priority for the family to experience time together camping, taking road trips and visiting cousins and family friends.

MaryAnn worked at the Carney hospital for many years and was proud of her work as an assistant to the Residents and her work in the ER but was even more proud of the relationships she formed during her time there.

She had many devoted and lifelong friends who she loved spending time during bingo, road trips and just relaxing over lunch and tea of course. She was creative at heart and loved spending time painting and creating scrapbooks of all her special memories.

She personified this quote “ When we come to the end of our lives here on earth we will take no material thing with us. The only things that we may take are the things we have given away. If we helped others and have given our time, our kindness, our friendship and our love to help our fellow man, we may take that with us. Those are the things that really matter.” MaryAnn’s greatest joy was being a mother and “Grandma Mia” and she cherished any time with her family. Her greatest legacy will be the gifts she was able to give her children and grandchildren through the example of her life; the gifts of faith, kindness, and unconditional love that will live on for generations.
