Mary Helena Forrester died peacefully on March 20, 2024, in Sudbury, MA at the age of 102. Mary was born in Boston, MA in 1921 to Ellen (McEleney) and Vincent B. Forrester. She graduated from Hingham High School in 1938 and attended Burdett College in Boston. Mary was recognized for her intelligence and business savvy and worked for Sunoco Oil Company in Framingham, MA for twenty years. She was deeply loved for her quick wit, independence, and legendary stubbornness.
Mary was devoted to her hometown of Hingham, living there from 1921 to 2017. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham. Mary’s favorite pastimes were skiing and swimming, particularly at Hingham Bathing Beach, and she prided herself on teaching several family members how to swim. She also enjoyed traveling all over the world with friends and family. Mary was an avid gardener and especially loved roses and peonies.
She is predeceased by her parents, brother Vincent G. Forrester, and sister Patricia A. Rizzo.
Known as “Aunt Mary” to her family, she leaves behind her loving niece, Patricia Gogan and her husband Jeffrey, her grandnieces Pamela Grossetti (Joshua) and Allison Jensen (Christopher) and grandnephew Patrick Gogan (Luisana), as well as many great-grandnieces and grandnephews. Mary also leaves her good friend, Thomas McBurney, as well as her wonderful friends and dedicated, loving caregivers at Orchard Hill Assisted Living.
