Mary E. Linehan

Mary Ellen Linehan, 101, of Hingham, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 10th, surrounded by family, friends, and caregivers. She was born on December 2, 1924, in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Shoughrow) Linehan and the sister of the late George Linehan and the late Joseph Linehan, Jr., and his wife Susan. A lifelong resident of Hingham, she was a devoted parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Hingham.

After graduating from Hingham High School in 1942, Mary worked for several Boston companies before beginning a long distinguished career as Administrative Secretary to the Chairman and CEO of the First National Bank of Boston and later the Bank of Boston.

Mary was an avid reader throughout her life, enjoying books in print and later audio as her eyesight declined. She loved to travel and treasured time spent with family and friends. A devoted sports fan, she followed college football and all Boston professional teams and was a longtime season ticket holder of the Boston Red Sox.

In 2004, Mary became one of the first “Linden Ponds Pioneers,” among the community’s earliest residents. There, she formed many close friendships and participated actively in clubs and activities, including the Media and TV Studio.

Mary was an incredibly independent woman whose wisdom, strength, and grace inspired all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, including her cousins Francis Lamprey and his wife Mary of Orlando, Florida; Paul Lamprey and his wife Judy of Rome, Georgia, along with their children Karla Quick and the late Sean Lamprey; and Ann Marie Dooley and her husband Thomas of Cohasset, along with their children Matthew and Megan Dooley, and Kristen, Patrick, Liam, and Rowan O’Brien. She will also be fondly remembered by her neighbors and friends at Linden Ponds.

The family is forever grateful for the compassion, support, and friendships provided by her dedicated caregivers from Beacon Hospice, the Kathy Leonard Team, and the Linden Ponds Medical and Home Support Services.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 1/18/2026 from 12-2 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM followed by a prayer service at 2 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to Beacon Hospice, 32 Resnik Rd., Suite 3, Plymouth, MA 02360.
