McClelland, Mary J. (O’Sullivan) formerly of Weymouth and Kingston, passed away on October 21, 2026. She was 91 years old.

Mary was born in 1934 in Quincy, to the late John and Hannah (Carey) O’Sullivan.

She was a homemaker in the truest and most impressive sense of the word, though she preferred the title “domestic engineer,” which sounds far more official and, frankly, far more deserving of a business card. Mary never worked outside the home, but anyone who knew her understood that she ran a very important operation.

Mary and her beloved husband, Kip, were married in 1956 and shared 44 wonderful years together until his passing in 2000. They met through mutual friends while Kip was stationed at Fort Devens. Their life together was built on companionship, shared adventures, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that make a life memorable.

She loved the places that felt like home, including the homes beyond Weymouth that held so many cherished memories. Lake Winnipesaukee was one of those special places, and so was New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she could enjoy the water and the kind of peace that only comes from looking out at something beautiful. Mary especially loved looking out at the water, which suited her perfectly, because she had the calm presence of someone who knew that life is better when you pause long enough to enjoy the view.

After retirement, Mary and Kip took a Route 66 drive across the country, proving that some people retire by slowing down and others retire by becoming legends. She also loved cruising with good friends Dick and Sally, including a memorable trip to Hawaii, and later she found another favorite cruising buddy in her grandson Stephen. She had a special fondness for dogs, especially labs, and she loved them more than people, which, to be fair, is a very understandable position. Taking Molly for rides was one of her great pleasures, and it is safe to say that Molly probably felt like royalty.

Mary had a deep love of everything Irish, especially the music, and that love was part of the rhythm of her life. In her younger years, she sang every year at the Edison Ball with her father, a tradition that reflected both her joy in music and her devotion to family.

The family wants to extend special thanks to the Newfield House for the care and support they provided to Mary.

Mary J. McClelland lived a life full of love, laughter, and grace, and if heaven has a waterfront view, she is probably already looking out at it and approving the scenery.

Mary is survived by her children, Kathleen Condos and her husband Charles of Duxbury and John McClelland and his wife Millie of Pennsylvania. Grandmother to Maureen, Michael, Stephen, Gregory, Ashley, Matthew, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Kermit J. "Kip" McClelland, her daughter Mary Jo Livingstone and her brother John O'Sullivan.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's name may be made to the Friendship Home- Norwell, PO Box 916, Norwell, MA 02061. See www.Keohane.com for directions and online condolences.
