Mary H. Moynihan (Norton) of Squantum, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026. She was 84.
Mary was born in Cambridge on August 29, 1942 to Helen (Costello) and Patrick Norton. She was raised in Brighton and graduated from Our Lady of the Presentation High School. Mary went on to work in the registrar’s office at Boston College and later for The Jesuit Community. Mary was proud of her nearly 40 years at Boston college and told her son, Wayne, that it never felt like work because it was such a loving, supportive community. She retired in 2015. Mary also enjoyed helping out at the family business - the Linwood Grill - over the years, in different roles as cook, manager, greeter and friend to patrons.
Mary will be remembered for a life defined by quiet strength, deep devotion, and unwavering generosity. Selfless in all she did, she gave freely of her time, her love, and her energy to those around her. Her faith guided her steps, and her strong sense of family was at the heart of everything she built and nurtured. She worked hard without complaint, always putting others before herself, creating a home filled with warmth, care, and compassion.
In her spare time, Mary found joy in the simple beauty of the world around her. She cherished trips with her family to the beach, whether along the shores of Squantum, Cape Cod, or Rexhame, where the sound of the ocean brought her peace. Or, at a special place in the Adirondacks of upstate New York, where she embraced the quiet serenity of nature with her cousin Joe and his family.
Beloved wife of 50 years to the late Neil Moynihan. Devoted mother to Wayne Moynihan and the late Annemarie Moynihan. Adoring grandmother to Joseph Moynihan. Loving sister of the late Joseph Norton and his surviving wife, Anne of Scituate and of Kevin Norton and his wife Mary Jeanne, also of Scituate. In addition, Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Wednesday, April 8th, from 9-10 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 8th, in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of Mary Moynihan to Boston College, Jesuit Community, Office of University Advancement, Cadigan Alumni Center, 140 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467 (selection Jesuit Community).
