Mary Patricia
Woletskas
April 29, 1943 – March 29, 2026
Mary Patricia (Gately) Woletskas, of Braintree, formerly of Stoughton, died peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 82.
Mary was born in Boston on April 29, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (McGrath) Gately. She was raised in South Boston, attended local schools and graduated from Gate of Heaven High School.
Mary passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength that will live on in all who knew her.
Mary married the love of her life, Paul, in September of 1966. They first met at a barn, where their mutual love of horses brought them together. After marrying, they continued that passion, owning horses and stabling them at the family farm in Stoughton. Among them was her beloved Appaloosa, Patches, who held a special place in her heart. Paul predeceased her in 2019.
Affectionately nicknamed by her close family members as “Einstein,” Mary was known for her remarkably sharp mind and extraordinary memory. She was the family historian, who everyone turned to for information.
Mary had a lifelong love for animals, especially her Jack Russell Terriers, who brought her companionship and joy throughout the years.
Mary was a gifted crocheter. Through her crochet work, she expressed her love in tangible ways such as crafting baby blankets, sweaters, scarves, and special sets for each of her grandchildren.
Music was a constant joy in Mary’s life, especially as her eyesight started to fade. Her tastes were wide-ranging, from Elvis and gospel to opera and country. She found meaning and solace in songs that stirred the heart and lifted the spirit. She also delighted in simple pleasures like watching true crime shows and classic films, playing rummy, and enjoying lively games at Foxwoods.
Above all, Mary was an extraordinary Nana. She shared a particularly deep and loving bond with her grandchildren, caring for them with patience, understanding, and a uniquely gentle devotion that spoke volumes about her character.
She will be remembered as loving, caring, giving, and selfless, with a dry wit that could bring a smile even in quiet moments. Her life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continues through her family. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Woletskas, who died in April of 2019. Together they shared 53 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of
Leah M. Nabstedt of Braintree, and Julie A. Woletskas of Stoughton. Mary was the loving nana of Patrick, Jack, and Danny Nabstedt, all of Braintree, and Paul Wilkinson of Stoughton, she was the dear sister of Helen Mackie of South Boston, and the late Edward Gately Jr. Mary was the caring aunt of Lori Collins and her husband Brian of Plainville, and the cherished godmother of Laurie Dauphinee and her husband Scott of Holbrook. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Route 18 opposite of South Shore Hospital).
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 12:30 PM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth.
Services will conclude with interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
