Maryann Evelyn Carroll

Maryann (Mimi) Carroll, 68, of Hingham, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in 1957 in Brockton to Mary and David Carroll, Maryann graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School before going on to earn a degree in Economics at Wheaton College.

Maryann spent her entire 35 year professional career at Wellington Management Company. She cherished her time at Wellington working alongside remarkable colleagues. She began her career in an administrative role, worked her way up while completing an MBA from Babson at night, and ultimately retired as a Partner/Director of US Macroanalysis - a testament to her work ethic, dedication and loyalty.

Her career allowed her to travel the world, with significant time spent in Europe and Asia. However, there was nowhere Maryann loved to travel to more than Turks and Caicos for a beach vacation with her family. She also spent many happy summers at the beach in Hull and Pocasset, MA.

Maryann had a lifelong passion for cuisine and the culinary arts; she enjoyed fine dining and French red wine. Maryann excelled at everything she was passionate about and cooking was no exception. She loved making her favorite recipes for family and friends. Whether her famous Bolognese or Sammy Sullivan’s Ice Cream Cake, you knew every meal was made from the heart. Maryann even transcribed some of these dishes into “Mimi’s Favorite Recipes,” a cookbook she gifted to her loved ones.

Maryann lived generously, always emphasizing the importance of giving back. She spent years supporting Joanna’s Place, helping provide countless women with the tools and skills needed for success in the workforce. After retiring, Maryann served nine years on the Board of Trustees at Wheaton College. She was instrumental in guiding the college’s investment strategy and decisions, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Crowley, and her husband Brian and her sister, Tricia Cruise, and her husband David. Maryann was predeceased by her sister Sara Carroll. She also leaves her nieces Colleen Kyrios, Christina Mahoney, Ellen Crowley, Kathleen Curtis, Mary Kate Cruise and nephew Peter Cruise. She is also survived by her aunt, Jane Delea, uncle, Thomas Wilkinson, and several incredibly special friends.

Maryann’s family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to her care teams at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and It’s Good To Be Home, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, Maryann’s family graciously requests donations be made to organizations she cared deeply about: Dana Farber Cancer Institute to help fund necessary research and The Greater Boston Food Bank to help keep food on the table for many this holiday season.

A celebration of life for Maryann will be held at a later date.
