Maureen Margaret (Delaney) Silva age 89 passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2025, in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Born on May 17th, 1936 in Quincy, Massachusetts to the late Christopher S. Delaney and the late Margaret Dorothy (Shine) Delaney.
Maureen grew up in the Montclair section of Quincy, graduated from North Quincy High School and then attended Bridgewater State College. She married her high school sweetheart; Jospeh L. Silva Jr. and they settled in Weymouth. Maureen lived in Weymouth for over 60 years before moving to Sandwich in 2021.
Her early career began as an executive secretary, where her organizational skills and professionalism were highly valued. Later she transitioned into Real Estate – a field perfectly suited for her outgoing personality and natural ability to connect with people. She sold residential properties on the South Shore before moving into commercial real estate. In her later years, Maureen worked in retail where she was cherished for her friendly demeanor, warm smile and exceptional eye for decorating.
A woman of many talents and interests, Maureen had a flair for home décor and delighted in painting, wallpapering and sewing. She ran in several 5K runs, played tennis, and loved to swim! She also loved entertaining – whether it was a holiday gathering, a summer cookout, game night or just an impromptu get together, she loved being with her friends and family and her home was always warm and inviting. Though she often joked about not being the best cook, her husband Joe’s culinary skills made their gatherings memorable and filled with laughter and love and the famous quote “FHB”.
Maureen had a deep affection for the ocean and spent countless joyful hours at the beach. An avid swimmer throughout her life, she found peace and happiness near the water. Her days were often filled with music and she enjoyed singing. She was known for her infectious smile and she brought light into every room she entered. Her family was her greatest pride and joy and she is lovingly missed by her daughter Andrea D. Suba of Plymouth, MA, son S. Parker Silva and wife Lisa of Attleboro, MA and daughter Suzanne S. Peterson and husband Eric of Bridgewater, MA. She is lovingly missed by 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Maureen is predeceased by her husband Joseph L. Silva Jr., and her 3 sisters Joan Fitzpatrick, Eleanor Staples and Suzanne Matthies.
Maureen will be remembered for the way she made people feel like family, whether through real estate connections or retail friendships – or simply meeting someone new, she had a gift for making a lasting impression. Her signature response to “I love you” was always “ I love you more” a phrase that captured the depth of affection and love she shared so freely. While dementia may have stolen the last few years of her life it never took away her loving spirit. May Maureen’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her and continue to inspire warmth, kindness and love in those whose lives she touched. Another quote when leaving was “Ciao!”
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, November 7th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at MacDonald Keohane Funeral home, 3 Charles Street, East Weymouth, MA. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated November 7th at 10:30 am in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1203 Commercial Street, East Weymouth, MA.
