It is with great sadness that we announce that Michael Kirwin Rayne of Rockland, formerly of Quincy and Brookline, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 28, 2025. He was 82.
He was born in Brookline to Margaret (Kirwin) and George Rayne. He grew up in Brookline and attended Brookline High School. Michael heard the call to serve his country at a young age and responded by enlisting in the US Army. He served for 3 years and was a proud Bronze Star recipient. He once again answered the call to serve when he started as a Brookline firefighter in the mid-seventies. Michael was honored to serve the town he grew up in.
Michael’s life centered around his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and was very close with his siblings. He always looked forward to an annual family camping trip at Lake Dennison that started in the 1970’s and to this day is a beloved family tradition. Aside from this annual tradition, many holidays, celebrations and gatherings were spent with his family, and he stayed in constant contact with every one of his 9 siblings. Michael also enjoyed golfing, fishing and old westerns. He would take Eileen to Summerfield, FL during the winters to escape the cold and very much enjoyed the change of scenery.
Beloved husband of 57 years to Eileen Rayne (Reilly) of Rockland. Devoted father to Michael K. Rayne and his wife Kristen of Quincy, Kim Marie Moran and her late husband Bernie of Pembroke, James P. Rayne and his wife Wendy of Westport, and Stephen Rayne of Rockland. Adoring grandfather to Stephen Moran, Jordan Moran, Daniel Moran, Joelle Rayne, Danial Rayne, Connor Rayne and Griffin Rayne. Loving brother to Eleanor A. Cahill of Burlington and Kathleen Gormley of Bonita Springs, FL. Predeceased by his parents, Margaret (Kirwin) and George Rayne, and siblings, Robert Hall, George F. Rayne, Paul S. Rayne, Francis K. Rayne, Maureen Dyer, William Rayne and Mary Claire Troiano.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday October 10, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s name may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 18 Canton Street, Stoughton, MA, 02072.
