Michael J. Walsh, of North Weymouth, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born in Boston on June 19, 1947, Michael was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mildred E. (Lucey) Walsh. He grew up in South Boston and attended local schools. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on October 28, 1967, and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserves for an additional four years.
After his military service, Mike and his beloved wife Charlene made their home in South Boston before settling in Weymouth. It was there that Mike began his extraordinary 57-year career in the elevator industry. Starting as a member of IUEC Local 4 Boston, he eventually founded his own company—United Elevator—a source of great pride. What began in a spare bedroom of his Weymouth home grew into one of Boston’s largest independent elevator companies.
Reflecting on all he had accomplished, Mike would often turn to his wife and kids and say, “Not bad for a kid from Southie.” It was a humble nod to his roots and a quiet celebration of just how far he'd come.
Beyond his professional legacy, Mike's heart was firmly rooted in his family. He was most proud of his dog George and his 24 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, whose laughter, hugs, and joy brought light into his life. His love for his family was unconditional and enduring.
Michael was the devoted husband of Charlene M. (Borden) Walsh, with whom he shared sixty cherished years of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. He was the loving father of: Laura Canniff and her husband Daniel, Brenda Walsh, Gregory Walsh, Christine Cinquegrano and her husband Ronald, Donna Kajunski and her husband Paul, James Walsh and his wife Marie, Ryan Walsh and his wife Meghan, Suzanne Rigney and her husband James, Eric Walsh and his wife Christina.
He was the proud grandfather of Shawn, Michael, Sarah, Anna, Thomas, Angela, Andrew, Christopher, Justin, Matteo, Gianna, Madison, Hailey, Abigail, Natalie, Charlotte, Kyleigh, Trevor, Hazel, Riley, Reese, Rose, Claire, and Isabelle, and the loving great-grandfather of Maeve and Shawn.
Michael was the dear brother of Judith Morris and her late husband Philip of Rhode Island, Mary “Bunny” Corbett and her late husband Matthew of Quincy, the late Donald Walsh and his late wife Freda of Nevada, the late David Walsh and his surviving wife Marilyn of Texas, the late Barbara McGregor and her late husband James of Quincy, the late Kathleen Shehadeh and her late husband Benjamin of Virginia, and the late Suzanne White and her late husband Leo.
He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The Walsh family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at South Shore Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital for their care over the past two years. A special thanks goes to Mike’s two favorite nurses, Jenn Walsh and Paige Fialho—your love, compassion, and guidance will never be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).
