Neil Leonard QFD, age 61, of Stoughton, MA, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Neil was born on December 29, 1964, in Quincy, MA, to Claire (Morrissey) Leonard and Daniel J. Leonard. He was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1983, the "Red Raiders."
Neil received an associate’s degree in fire science from Massasoit Community College. Neil was an active 32-year Professional Firefighter for the City of Quincy, MA, a career he loved and served proudly. He always said that being a firefighter was "the best job in the world." He also served his country from 1984 -1990 in the US Massachusetts Army National Guard, 772 MP CO., Rank of E4, Plymouth, MA.
He was incredibly handy, collecting a plethora of tools throughout his life. His family referred to him as "Mr. Fix-It." He could perform any task and solve various problems. With all his expertise, he was willing to help anyone and everyone who needed him.
Neil loved life! He was a selfless man, best known for his smile and his "Neil" hugs. He enjoyed summer times spent at his home on Cape Cod. He loved his boat and spending days on the water with friends and family. He was the definition of a "people-person." He could make a friend anywhere he went.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Barbara "Barbie" (O'Keefe) Leonard, of Stoughton. Cherished by his children, Nicole B. Leonard, of Stoughton, MA, and Daniel J. Leonard, of Watertown, MA, and his future wife, Hannah L. Carey. He will be missed by his beloved dog, Riley Dakota Leonard.
Neil is survived by his sister, Nancy (Leonard) McAdams, and her husband James, of Quincy, MA, and his brother David Leonard of Utah. Also survived by many brothers-and-sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many, many friends.
Neil was predeceased by his parents, sister Janice Leonard of Quincy, and by his brother Daniel Leonard of Pembroke.
Neil Leonard will be deeply missed and always remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, May 17th from 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 18th. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Neil’s honor may be made to the Quincy Fire Cancer Foundation.
