Owen E. O’Neil, 62, of Hingham and West Hyannisport, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Owen was a devoted husband to his wife, Leslie, and a proud and loving father to their two sons, Nicholas and Owen W. Family was at the center of his life, and he especially treasured the time they spent together in Hingham and during summers in West Hyannisport.
Born to the late Carmel and John O’Neil, Owen graduated from Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island, before attending the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a degree in Economics. While at Holy Cross, he was a member of the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy upon graduation. Owen subsequently earned his coveted “Wings of Gold” as a Naval Aviator. His active-duty service included an assignment with Patrol Squadron Nineteen (VP-19), based at Naval Air Station Moffett Field in California. His years in the Navy were a source of lifelong pride.
Following his military service, Owen embarked on a distinguished 35-year career in financial services, holding senior executive positions with several prominent Wall Street firms. Respected for his professionalism, experience, and relationships throughout the industry, Owen built a successful career in institutional sales and capital markets.
Away from the office, Owen was an avid golfer and accomplished saltwater fisherman. Equally at home pursuing bluefin tuna on the waters of Nantucket Sound or lining up a putt at his beloved Hyannisport Club, he embraced both pursuits with enthusiasm. His summers in West Hyannisport were especially meaningful, filled with family, friends, and the activities he loved most.
Above all, Owen will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of the sea, and the friendships he cultivated throughout his life. He faced his illness with the same courage and determination that characterized so much of his life.
In addition to his beloved wife, Leslie, Owen is survived by his sons, Nicholas O’Neil, his fiancée Kate DeVlieger, and Owen W. O’Neil; his siblings, Jane O’Neil Ruse, Sean P. O’Neil (Catherine),Diane O’Neil Collins (Joe) and Timothy W. O’Neil (Nell); and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Carmel and John O’Neil.
