Patricia M. “Patty” (Coffey) Gozzo, 61, of South Weymouth, Massachusetts passed away peacefully in her home on July 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving husband, five children, and two dogs after a short yet courageous battle with a glioblastoma. The Gozzo family would like to thank Croi Hospice for their unwavering support and guidance in her final days.
Growing up in West Roxbury, Patty was the second of three children born of the late Paul and Joan (Adams) Coffey. Her brothers John Coffey and James Coffey of West Roxbury lived happily with their family dog O’Hara for many years on Running Brook Road across the street from Patty’s lifelong best friend Laurel Kadlick and her family.
A few years after she graduated from St. Clare High School and Aquinas college, Patty began working at Boston Edison where she met her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Gozzo. They married in 1993, bought their home in Weymouth together and began a family a few years later. Over their 33 years, Patty and Bob grew a beautiful life together that was centered around love, kindness, laughter, and good food! They traveled with their children annually to Dennis, MA on Cape Cod with many family friends, where Patty loved spending long days at Mayflower Beach and summer nights grabbing an ice cream. Later they would make family trips to Disney World, Ireland, Aruba for their 30th anniversary, and many more local trips around New England.
Patty was the best mom to five children, Laurel Gozzo (and her husband, Ethan Parets of Los Angeles, CA), Brian Gozzo (and his fiancé Samantha Fortune of San Jose, CA), Kevin Gozzo (of Weymouth), John Gozzo PVT First Class Army (of El Paso, TX), and Michael Gozzo (of Quincy), and her two labrador retrievers, Dennis and Scout. She loved being a mom and teaching her children lifelong lessons based on her own experiences, instilling characteristics like generosity and thoughtfulness in each of them and making sure each felt individually loved and cared for in their big family of seven.
She always made time for her birthday club dinners and annual trip to New Hampshire with her friends. She loved going to book club, running 5ks with her family and friends, doting on her two dogs, and had just begun traveling regularly to visit her kids who had moved out of state and was planning to visit Italy with her husband Bob.
Patty was also known dearly as “Miss Patty” to the students at Hamilton Elementary School in Weymouth. She loved being their lunch lady for over a decade and always had several students hanging out in her office before school each morning. Her office became a safe space for students who were dropped off early and needed someone to chat to. She would regularly have seniors visit many years later and would happily sign their yearbooks. In 2024, Patty won the Distinguished Service Recognition Award from the Norfolk County Teachers Association. The Gozzo family would like to thank the many families of Hamilton that sent gift cards and over 300 handmade student cards to comfort and help Miss Patty over the past few months.
Patty lived a life of service, from her family to her students, to everyone she met. She spent the last three years of her life caring daily for her mother who battled dementia and passed away only a year ago in June 2024. Patty was known as a kind and loving mother to her kids (and famously never grounded her children!) and devoted her life to making sure they were happy, comfortable, and safe. She was wonderfully funny and could make anyone laugh. She lived a life that she was proud of and felt fulfilled by.
Patty will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours onThursday, July 9, 2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant St., Weymouth on Friday July 10, 2026 at 11 AM.
Patty wishes to be cremated and for her family to spread her ashes at a later date.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Patty Gozzo Memorial Scholarship Fund linked HERE.
