Pat expired after a very long illness. She was born and had her early education in the Newburgh, NY area. She excelled in her studies, earned college degrees from the Good Counsel College (White Plains, NY- BS Biology 1969) and Columbia University (NYC BS Nursing 1971), as well as a master’s degree from ST Louis University (MO MS Nursing 1973). Her career included nursing at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital NYC, Carney Hospital STL, Boston City Hospital, and most recently Shriner’s Burn Hospital, Boston, retiring on 2012. She also served as a Project Hope missions, educating nurses in burn care for severely burned children in many countries, such as Jamaica, China and Russia.
She is survived by a sister Barbara Lybarger, with whom she lived from 1985 until her death, in the Roslindale and later Quincy areas. She is also survived by the children of her youngest sister Linda Lybarger Carlile and her husband Douglas Carlile (both deceased). They are: Patrick Carlile of Abington MA, as well as his son Jonathan, Brain Carlile and his wife Christine Tripodi Carlile of Wycoff NJ, as well as their children Logan and Lucas, and Elizabeth Carlile Gould and her husband Dennis Gould of Hardeeville SC, as well as their children Dennis and Shelby.
Pat was never truly happy unless there was at least one dog in the house to snuggle. She enjoyed spending time with her family, singing, music, reading, traveling, gardening and practicing Tia Chi at the Tia Chi Research Institute in Boston, under the instruction of international recognized Bo Sin Mark.
