Patrick E. "Padraíg" O'Donnell

Patrick E. “Padraíg” O’Donnell, a longtime resident of Quincy(Hough's Neck), passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was 86.

Patrick was born in the Irishmore Aran Islands, Galway, Ireland to Delia (Kelly) and Denis O’Donnell. He started working at the age of 12 and would continue to do so for most of his life. Patrick moved to the U.S. in 1959 when he was 21. After settling in the states, he reconnected with Mary Powell, who he knew from Ireland. The two were inseparable and would go on to get married and start a family.

Patrick was a proud member of the Local 223 Laborer’s Union and worked as a laborer for 40 years before retiring. After his retirement he enjoyed many trips back to Ireland to visit family and friends. Retirement certainly didn’t stunt Patrick’s work ethic. He was always sure to keep busy and put his skills as a carpenter to use by helping family and friends every chance that he could.

He was a kind and gentle soul that was a constant and reliable presence in the lives of those he loved. Although small in stature, Patrick had a quiet strength that often surprised those that were lucky enough to witness some of his many feats of strength. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of 55 years to Mary O’Donnell (Powell) of Quincy. Devoted father to Patrick G. O’Donnell of Quincy, Maureen Lynn and her husband Roderick of Holbrook, Deirdre Bertone and her husband Richard of Weymouth, and Brian O’Donnell and his girlfriend Roshni of Brighton. Predeceased by his siblings: Mary O’Donnell, Tomas O’Donnell, Bridie Dillane, Peggy Myers, Martin O’Donnell, Catherine O’Donnell, and Annie Robinson. Adoring grandfather to Riley and Kendall Lynn, and Richard and Brendan Bertone. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 11/29/2024 from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Saturday 11/30/2024 prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
