Paul L. Belben, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born on January 17, 1932, in Dorchester, where he was raised with humble beginnings that shaped the strong work ethic and determination he carried throughout his life. At the age of 18, Paul joined the United States Army in search of opportunity and to serve his country. During the Korean war he proudly served in the 2nd Infantry Division as a member of the Mortar Company and later as a Mechanic.
After returning home from service, Paul married the love of his life, the late Phyllis Belben (Hurley). Together they built a life and raised their family in Weymouth, Massachusetts, where they lovingly raised their four children and established deep roots in the community.
Paul was a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He spent many years working for the MBTA as a bus driver in Boston, often taking on long hours and additional shifts working on train cars and tracks. Known to many as a true “jack of all trades,” Paul was the person family, friends, and neighbors called when something needed fixing. He could repair just about anything and earned a reputation as the ultimate “Mr. Fix-It.”
Even while balancing work and family life, Paul continued his service to his country by joining the Navy Reserves.
Paul had a lifelong love for the water and the sky. He enjoyed sailing his sailboat and had a deep passion for aviation. One of his proudest possessions was his Piper Cub airplane, and he truly loved all things aviation.
He was an avid reader, a loyal friend, and someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand. While he could be considered a homebody, Paul also enjoyed weekend trips to the Irish Village, where his sharp wit and natural humor shined. He had a gift for making people laugh, and many joked that he should have been a stand-up comedian. His humor and warm personality made him well-loved by many.
Paul was a proud member of American Legion Post 95 and held the distinction of being its oldest living member.
Above all else, Paul was most proud of his family, his work ethic, and the life he built through dedication, resilience, and love.He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him
Loving father of Edward P. Belben and his wife, Joanne, of North Attleboro, Carol A. Newcomb of Weymouth, Nancy M. Belben of Weymouth, and Michael T. Belben of Brockton. Proud Grandpa of 3 grandchildren 6 great grandchildren. Paul is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
