Paul Francis DeCilio of Hanover passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after battling multiple myeloma with unwavering strength and grace. He was 74.
Born and raised in Quincy, Paul was a graduate of North Quincy High School. He continued his education at Bryant & Stratton Business School in Boston. During the Vietnam War era, he was drafted into the armed forces and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army National Guard.
He had a long and distinguished career managing the finance section for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance.
Paul found immense joy being with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. They were his world. He reveled in being called Dad and Papa. Paul had a sweet tooth and enjoyed baking special treats for the grandchildren, often adding ice cream on the side. He also loved watching them at their various activities including hockey, gymnastics, swimming, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and dance. Making morning coffee for Karen was his ritual throughout their marriage. He always looked forward to vacationing with family on Cape Cod and Topsail Island, North Carolina. In his younger years, Paul was an avid skier and surfer.
A conversationalist by nature, Paul was a good friend and neighbor, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.
He was a history buff who especially enjoyed reading about WW II and watching documentaries with subtitles. He also could be found tending to his flower beds and vegetable gardens, playing a round of golf, or completing numerous home improvement projects.
His spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
Paul was the beloved husband of Karen (Grant) DeCilio to whom he was married for nearly 50 years.
Cherished father of Kaitlin McDougall and her husband, Michael, BPD, of Hanover, and Matthew DeCilio and his wife, Emily, of Quincy.
Adored papa of Elizabeth, Caroline, and Emma McDougall; and Edward, Matthew, and Tobias DeCilio.
Paul leaves behind his loving in-laws Russell Grant, Ret. BPD, and his wife, Susan, of Scituate; Francis Grant and his wife, Anne, of Holbrook; and Claire Hester and her husband, Joseph, of Braintree; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He also was the cherished son-in-law of the late Russell and Katherine Grant.
