Obituary for Peter Dindy
Peter Dindy, a longtime resident of Quincy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 21, 2026. He was 88 years old.
Peter was born in Boston to Katina Dindy (Tranidh) and Stephen Dindy. He grew up in Boston and the surrounding towns, including Quincy.
In 1956 he began working for the John Hancock Mutual Life Ins. Co, where he started in the mailroom and worked his way through the ranks to finish his long career as a treasury officer at the John Hancock in 1995.
In the early 1960s, Peter was a member of the US Army Reserves, the service of which he was very proud.
Peter was active in his church, the Holy Trinity Albanian Orthodox church, in which he was a member of the choir, and also served as president for a period of time.
Peter met the love of his life, Virginia (Prifty), at church, and they were married in 1961. They would have celebrated their 65th anniversary on June 25 of 2026.
He was an avid, lifelong stamp collector, remaining active in that hobby right up to the present.
Peter enjoyed choral singing, participating in various choirs, including, for many years, the Quincy Choral Society.
In the 1970s, he was active in the anti-war movement, participating in many protests.
Another part of the country that Peter and Virginia fell in love with was Arizona. They first visited in 1995. They soon purchased a second home there and spent the winter seasons there for many years.
While there, they discovered the Baha’i Faith. Peter joined the Baha’i Faith in 2005. He loved the core Cause of the Baha’i Faith which is the unification of all mankind and Oneness of all religions. Through this he was able to expand his relationships and contribute to the Cause of God for many years.
Peter was also a volunteer for NAMI Arizona – the National Alliance on Mental Illness, where he worked as a family support group facilitator for 5 years.
Another organization Peter volunteered with was the South Shore Coalition for Human Rights, which he was involved with for over 30 years, helping to work towards racial integration.
Peter was exceptionally proud of his Albanian heritage. He worked very hard researching and building his family tree, and he also provided much support to the Albanian refugees after the fall of communism in Albania in the early 1990s.
Of all Peter’s many activities and accomplishments, he was most proud of the wonderful family that he and Virginia raised, with 4 children and 8 grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored.
Peter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia, and their 4 children – David and his wife Mamak Charepoo of Roxbury, Paul and his wife Julie of Foxborough, Jessica of Weymouth and Christopher of Weymouth. He is also survived by his brother Michael and his wife Judy, of Plymouth. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Alexandra Dindy and her husband Tim Igo; Rachel Dindy and her husband Matt Cioe, and Samantha Dindy; Jeremy Campo and Josephine Campo; and Matin Charepoo, Amin Charepoo and Samin Charepoo and her husband Johnny Cook.
He is predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Katina, and his sister Madeline.
Relatives and friends are invited to the burial and short service, which will take place at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy, MA. Attendees should enter and meet by the Chickatawbut Rd entrance at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 23, 2026. The memorial will be at the burial site at 12:30 PM
