Listen to Obituary

Phyllis A. (Scibeck) Madden, of Hingham, formerly of North Weymouth, died peacefully surrounded by her children at her Linden Ponds home on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. She was 85.

Phyllis was born in Boston on April 19, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothea (Armstrong) Scibeck. She was raised in South Boston, and later Dorchester and Weymouth, and attended local schools and parishes.

Phyllis was a woman whose warmth, spirit, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. With her Southie upbringing, she carried with her a strong sense of faith, community, loyalty, and heart that shaped her entire life.

For 35 years, Phyllis served as the beloved secretary at St. Jerome School in North Weymouth. The school was a place that she truly loved and considered her second home. All her children and grandsons are proud St. Jerome graduates.

Through her dedication to St. Jerome School and her kindness, she became a constant presence in the Principal’s Office and a trusted friend to generations of students, families, and colleagues. It was there that she formed lifelong friendships and gave so much of herself, always with a smile and a welcoming word.

Phyllis had a deep love for life and its simple joys and was always ready to enjoy a good time and lots of laughs with family and friends. She cherished time at the beach always with a book in her hand, enjoyed traveling and taking the family on trips creating once-in-a-lifetime memories, and took up golf later in life.

Above all else, Phyllis was devoted to her family, especially her grandsons, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was generous, kind, and caring to all, always ready with good advice, laughter, and encouragement. Spunky and full of life, she was a firecracker and a true original, with a great sense of humor that could light up any room.

Phyllis will be remembered as someone who made people laugh, feel loved, and feel welcome. Her legacy of love, joy, and kindness will live on in the many lives and hearts she touched.

Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late John Madden, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of John Madden of South Boston, Marjorie Mumaw and her husband Robert of Pembroke, Christine Hegarty and her husband John of Weymouth, and the late Felicia Voelker and her surviving husband Daniel of Plymouth. Phyllis was the loving grandmother of Ryan and his partner Ali, Michael, Christian, Patrick, and the late David. She was the dear sister of the late John Scibeck and the late Dorothea DeLorey. Phyllis is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and members of the St. Jerome Community.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).
