Raymond Richard Dwyer, 90, a longtime resident of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Ray was born to Norma (Field) and Kevin Brendon Dwyer. He grew up in Scituate and was active at Saint Mary of the Nativity church, where he met his lifelong friend Phil Joseph. He spent many hours clamming and fishing with his brothers and worked gathering Irish moss during the summers. He met his wife of 67 years, Carol Carnes, in their freshman year at Archbishop Williams High School, where they were members of the first graduating class of 1953. He was on the football team and scored the first ever touchdown for the new school.

Ray earned his bachelor’s degree at The College of Holy Cross in Worcester MA where he was president of the Student Congress and the Interracial Justice Club. He worked with Catholic Charities prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy and attending Officer Candidate School. In 1958 he was stationed in San Diego CA, there he served on the LST-845 Jefferson County where he participated in amphibious training before departing for the Far East for training and readiness exercises along the coast of Japan. He returned to the east coast and was stationed in Newport RI where he taught navigation and took classes at Boston University. He was sent to FL during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He completed his active-duty commitment in 1963 and went to work for the Burroughs Corporation, at the time a key player in the computer market. He later moved to Bank of New England where he worked for over 25 years as an IT Executive. He was a skilled manager, generous with his time and guided many people on their career paths.

Ray was devoted to his wife and family. He was an active member of St. Paul's Church where he had many friends, always willing to help a person in need. Ray was a great cook, he and his wife Carol loved to entertain and were famous for their parties where many gathered and all were welcome. They stayed connected to friends they made throughout their lives and were great at bringing people together. Ray was a lifelong runner and could be seen on long runs around town with Buzz Coulon and anyone else that might be training for an event, the 4th of July road race was not to be missed.

Ray was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carol and his brothers, Kevin Dwyer, Rev. Vincent Dwyer and David Dwyer. He is survived by his four children Terry Hurley (Steve), Rick Dwyer (Barbie), Marcy Lamlein, and Mary Chapin (Jack), all of Hingham. His ten grandchildren Henri Dwyer (Zoe), Jenna Boccard (Alex), Vincent Hurley (Tori), Rebecca Daniels (Sam), Kayla Collins, Evan Lamlein, Erika Chapin, Raymond Lamlein, Samantha Chapin and Hadley Dwyer and five great-grandchildren Margaux, Milo, Ophelia, Vaughn and Jazmyn. He is also survived by his brother, Laurence A. Dwyer and his two brothers-in-law, Bill Carnes (Barbara) and Gerry Carnes (Mary Ann) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the Visiting Hours on Friday, June 19th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., (off Central St.), Hingham.
