Penwarden, Raymond O. of Quincy, born and raised in Allston, died April 29, 2025.
Ray was a proud Army veteran in the 11th Airborne Division during Korea. He worked as an ironworker for Boston Local 7 and a lifetime member of Old Colony Yacht Club in Dorchester, holding the position of Yard Master for a few years. Ray was an avid diver for Neptune’s Angels out of South Boston, diving in competitions and at many local shipwrecks. Since he was young, Ray was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson bike. He had a great sense of humor, was always positive and helping others, and a longtime friend of Bill W. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of 26 years to Joanne Penwarden of Quincy. Cherished father of Susan Smith and her husband David of Quincy, Raymond Penwarden and his wife Mia of Rockland, and Jeannie O’Leary and her husband Danny of Braintree. Devoted brother of the late Joan Montford, William Penwarden, and Earl Penwarden. Loving grandfather of Michael, Alex, Jackie, Adam, Daniel, and Kallie and great grandfather of Joshua. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 5/13/2025 from 4-7:30 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY followed by a funeral home service at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Raymond may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
