The Reverend Dale B. McQueen, 87, of Hingham, MA, died peacefully at home on Saturday, February 7, 2026, predeceased by his beloved wife, Geraldine McQueen.
Born to William McQueen and Norma (Schmidt) McQueen on December 11, 1938, in Amherst, OH, Dale attended public schools in Vermilion and Oberlin, OH, graduating in 1956 from Firelands High School in Oberlin.
Dale joined the Army in 1958, and was stationed in Fort Knox, Fort Devens, and Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1961, Dale attended night school and taught in Kent, OH, public schools for many years, leading Dale to teach at Kent State University.
In the early 1970s, Dale was called to the ministry and on May 24, 1976, he achieved a Master of Divinity at Andover Newton Theological School, in Andover, MA, and was ordained to the Christian Ministry in the North Haven Congregational Church, North Haven, CT.
In 1976, Dale became Pastor of Pilgrim Congregational Church in North Weymouth, MA, and following that, he was Pastor of United Church of Shirley, Shirley, MA, for more than 18 years.
After his love for Gerry and his family, Dale’s passion was teaching youth and sharing the gospel, and as a team, he and Gerry held numerous Christian retreats at their home in Phillipston, MA.
Dale’s gentle demeanor and understanding was a source of comfort to those with whom he came into contact, even internationally as they completed a pulpit swap with a pastor in Wales, UK.
Dale and Gerry enjoyed many warm winters at their home in North Port, FL.
Dale is survived by his first wife and the mother of his children, Lois G. Grenier, his children Scott A. McQueen of Quincy, MA, and Sheryl A. Mendala of Saint Cloud, FL, and his step children Laura Cosgrove and her husband Dan of Sandwich, MA, Jennifer Morse and her husband John of Carver MA and Plymouth MA, respectively, and Frank Palmer and his wife Beth of Dublin, OH.
Also survived by his grandchildren Constance, Alyson, Erin, Rebecca, Ashleigh, Alyssa, Coralee, Danéa, John, and Dylan, and 14 beautiful great grandchildren.
Dale is survived by his brother, William F. McQueen of King George, VA, and sister, Kathleen Queen of Amherst, OH; and is predeceased by his brother, Richard A. McQueen, and sister Patricia J. Skelly.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family at Dale‘s Celebration of Life on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, at 11 a.m., United Church of Christ, 460 Main Street, Norwell, MA.
Burial is private.
