Richard Edward “Dick” Marcel of Weymouth passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on June 11, 1937, to the late Clovis T. Marcel and Mary Ita (Boudrot) Marcel.

Richard developed his lifelong love of sailboat racing at just eight years old. It was a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He graduated from Quincy High School Class of 1955 and went on to begin what would become a remarkable 50 yearcareer as a hoisting engineer. Richard spent the last 15 years of his career as General Manager of The Shaughnessy Companies in Boston, where he was a cherished and respected employee. He took great pride in sharing his knowledge and skills with those around him and helped teach and mentor many who would carry those skills into the future.

In 1958, Richard married his first wife, Jerry Ann Hoar. Together, they put down roots in Weymouth and raised their five children: Nancy Jean, Michael Thomas, Denise Marie, Deborah Lee, and Richard James.

Richard later married his second wife, the late Barbara Ann Mills. Following his retirement from The Shaughnessy Companies in 1999, Richard and Barbara moved to their new home in Yarmouth Port. Retirement did not keep Richard from doing what he loved. He spent several years working with the Yarmouth Recreation Department in its sailing program, sharing his knowledge and love of sailing with a new generation.

Richard was a lifelong member of the Wessagusset Yacht Club and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 for more than 50 years. He was also a card carryingmember of Bayberry Hills Golf Club and Bass River Golf Course.

Richard will be remembered for his love of sailing, his dedication to his work, and, most importantly, his love and devotion to his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the many people whose lives he touched through his work, friendships, and willingness to share his knowledge.

Richard is survived by his loving children Nancy Bedard of Maine, Michael Marcel and his wife Bonnie of Quincy, Denise Erwin and her husband John of Weymouth, Deborah Elliott and her husband Mark of Weymouth and Richard Marcel of Plymouth. Cherished Grampa to Stephanie, Harry, Kelsey, Craig, David, Nicole, Ashley, Emily, Jeff, Megan and Nick. Great Grandpa to Caylee, Micah, Caleb and Abigail. Brother to Joyce Hurleyand the late Thomas, David and Susan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in life by his wife Barbara Marcel.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 9/11/2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square). A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday 9/12/2026 at 10:30AM  in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea St. (off Rt. 3A-Bicknell Sq.), Weymouth. Cremation will follow.
