Richard F. Downey, of Weymouth, a cherished family man, proud veteran, and lifelong Bostonian, passed away peacefully at his home on November 21, 2024.
Richard graduated from Dorchester High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army. After his service, Richard built a fulfilling career as a printer, working diligently for several years.
Richard's heart was always fullest when surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Ravida) Downey for 56 glorious years. He was a guiding light to his children, Annmarie Callahan and her husband James of Weymouth, Richard F. Downey, Jr. and his late wife Renee of Quincy, Kevin Downey of Weymouth, and William Downey and his wife Kerri of East Milton. Also survived by his siblings, Kathleen, John, and Terrence. Affectionately known as "Papa," Richard's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, especially his grandson Michael who lived with him and helped take care of him. Richard's love extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of many nieces and nephews.
A true Bostonian at heart, Richard's passions included watching New England sports, challenging his mind with Jeopardy, and solving puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as sitting outside and engaging in conversations with family and friends. His visits to The Sandtrap for a cold one were also moments he relished.
