McKenna, Richard James, a longtime resident of Hull, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
The beloved husband of 51 years to Janet R. (Finn) McKenna, Richard was the devoted father of Stephanie Powers of Boston, and Jeanette and her husband Barry McMenimon of Pembroke. He was the cherished “Papa” to Madelynne and Hannah Pearson of Hull and Sofia and Audrey James McMenimon of Pembroke, with Audrey proudly sharing his middle name. He was the brother of Paul McKenna and his wife Anne of Arlington, and brother-in-law of Carol Timberlake of Marshfield and Susan Wilkinson and her husband Ed of Marshfield. Richard is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Richard grew up in South Boston and later built his life with Janet in Hull, where they raised their two daughters and two oldest granddaughters in the close-knit seaside town they loved. He worked at General Dynamics for 10 years, where he met many lifelong friends, but ultimately left to become a police officer.
For 30 years, Richard served as a Police Officer for the Town of Hull, retiring in 2013 with the honor of Badge #1. Throughout his career, he was recognized with commendations and awards, a testament to his dedication and the impact of his service on the community.
After retirement, Richard’s love for Hull continued. He drove the school bus, finding joy in seeing his granddaughters each day along his route. His humor, kindness, and big heart made him a familiar face and a friend to all.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 4–8 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, North Weymouth (40 Sea Street, off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).
