Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Faithful Servant
Robert Henri Beauregard of Hingham, Massachusetts died peacefully on May 18th, 2025 at the age of 90. A man of great heart, deep faith, and quiet strength, Bob lived a life rooted in service, humility, and compassion.
Bob was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on November 19th, 1934, to Ernest and Imelda Beauregard. He was raised in a bilingual household speaking French and English, along with his brother Rodolphe (deceased), and was instilled with values of faith, honesty, and kindness. Raised in a family of singers, Bob developed a deep and abiding love of music. He quickly took to the piano, and would travel to Boston for intensive lessons. He received a scholarship to La Salle Academy in Providence, RI, where he excelled academically and graduated with honors in 1952. While an accomplished piano player, Bob ultimately decided to follow a calling to the priesthood, enrolling at St. John’s Seminary. His deep commitment to his faith led to his ordination as a Catholic priest in 1960.
His first assignment was in Amesbury, Massachusetts, where he served for two years. Following this ministry, Bob chose to join the St. James Society—Cardinal Cushing’s newly formed missionary organization. This led him to Peru in 1962, where he spent seven years ministering to local and indigenous communities.
While in Peru, Bob immersed himself in the language, culture, and struggles of the people. He worked tirelessly to provide both spiritual and practical support—building trust, nurturing faith, and helping to establish vital community programs that improved daily life for those he served. He worked in Abancay, Andahuaylas, and Cusco, and took special pride in directing the church choir.
Upon returning to the U.S., Bob struggled with the culture of abundance that was in such stark contrast to the communities he served in Peru. He found comfort in continuing his mission of service in Brockton at the multi-service center, offering guidance and care to those struggling with mental health challenges and social services needs. He later returned to parish life at St. Ambrose Parish in Dorchester, where he served faithfully for several years, becoming a beloved presence in the community.
It was during this chapter of his life that Bob made a deeply personal and transformative decision—he stepped away from the priesthood and, in doing so, opened his heart to a new kind of love. He met Jane, the woman who would become his beloved wife and partner. They were married on October 8th, 1979 at the Martha Mary Chapel. Faith remained integral to their lives, leading Jane and Bob to marry again in the Catholic Church after Bob was officially laicized, ten years later. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, laughter, and devotion.
Bob worked for 25 years as a disability hearings officer for the state of Massachusetts. He and Jane raised three sons—John, Peter, and Thomas—whom he guided with wisdom and patience. He took great pleasure in attending countless soccer, baseball, hockey, and track events. He delighted in attending recitals, plays, and concerts. No matter the outcomes, he offered true encouragement and support.
Bob possessed a sense of artistry and craftsmanship he worked to pass on to his sons. He undertook projects in painting, woodworking, and home improvement with creativity and resourcefulness.
Cape Cod was always a special place for Jane and Bob, especially visiting Dennis every summer—a tradition that continues to this day (highlighted by ultra-competitive mini-golf rounds at Pirate’s Cove).
Throughout his life, Bob remained an avid singer and performer. He was a member of the South Shore Men of Harmony and performed in the barbershop quartet, Spindrift, for over 20 years.
Bob’s warmth and presence extended beyond his sons and Jane. He was a very proud uncle and loved dearly his nephews—George, Gary (deceased), Michael, Patrick, Benjamin, John, and Daniel—and nieces: Abby, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Molly, and Erin. Bob loved his brother, Rudy, and sisters-in-law Marguerite “Peg”(deceased) and Shirley (deceased). Jane’s family was cherished to Bob: brothers- and sisters-in-law John and Elaine Smoot, Mary Beth and Richard Keif, and Barbara and Daniel Bird. He welcomed into the family his son’s wives—Lizzie, Rosalyn, and Georgia—with open arms and a generous heart. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren—Luke, Ursula, Levi, and Delia—each of whom brought new light into his life.
Robert Henri Beauregard will be remembered for his unwavering sense of purpose, his gentle spirit, and his lifelong commitment to serving others. His legacy is carried on in every life he touched—through ministry, family, and friendship.
