Robert “Bob” Duggan, of Weymouth, died peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026. He was 90.

Born in Boston on February 26, 1936, Bob was the son of the late Henry and Lucy (Battles) Duggan and grew up in South Boston. He was always proud to be from Southie and carried that strong sense of neighborhood and community with him throughout his life.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army. Being a veteran was an important part of who he was, and he remained deeply proud of his service throughout his life. He believed strongly in community, civic duty, and doing his part for others.

Bob was also a proud union man. A longtime member of IBEW Local 103, he built his career as a master electrician and took tremendous pride in his trade and his union. He understood how things worked, knew how to make them work again, and was the person family, friends, and neighbors could count on when something needed fixing. Often, they never even had to ask. Bob noticed when someone could use a hand and simply stepped in to help.

That instinct extended far beyond his work. Bob cared deeply about people and genuinely wanted to know them. Family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and people he met along the way mattered to him, and he made an effort to stay connected. His friendships were important to him, and he cared for his friends with the same loyalty and generosity he showed his family.

And Bob could tell a story. He was an enthusiastic storyteller with an extraordinary memory, able to recall names, places, dates, and details from across his 90 years. A conversation with Bob could easily wind its way through stories of Southie, Germany during his years in the Army, the halls of IBEW Local 103, a job he had worked decades earlier, or one of the many people he had met along the way. He loved sharing those stories, and through them he kept people, places, and memories alive. Those who loved Bob will miss not only his stories, but the wonderful feeling of knowing that he remembered theirs.

Bob was generous with his time, knowledge, and talents and expected little in return. He was hardworking and dependable, with a calm, steady nature and a wonderfully dry sense of humor. His humor was often delivered with a straight face and perfect timing. He remained curious throughout his life and had a particular interest in history, especially World War II. He enjoyed learning about the people and events of the past, and his love of history fit naturally with his own remarkable memory. Bob also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—a meal at Jimmy’s Diner or the 99 Restaurant, a good turkey dinner, and his regular trips to the YMCA three days a week.

Family was at the center of Bob’s life. He was the beloved husband of Marianne (Ahern) Duggan, whom he married in 1982, and the devoted father of Robert Duggan Jr. of Brookline and Kevin Duggan and his wife Cristina of Hingham. Bob shared his sons with their mother, the late Mary (Logue) Duggan. His family also includes Marianne’s daughter, Ellen Murphy of Dennis, and her daughters, Lindsey George and Jessica Barrus.

One of Bob’s greatest joys was being Grampy. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Lindsey and her husband Adam of Rockland, Jessica of Weymouth, and Leila and Jack Duggan of Hingham, and a proud great-Grampy to Lindsey and Adam’s daughter, Audrey. Together, Grampy and Mimi—as Marianne is affectionately known—took great joy in the family they shared.

Bob was the dear brother of the late Marie Keefe and her husband Arthur, and the late Harry Duggan, whose wife Pat survives him. To his many nieces and nephews and their families, he was affectionately known as Uncle Bobby, a role he cherished throughout his life. He also leaves behind extended family members and many dear friends.

Bob’s family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Allerton House in Weymouth for the kindness, care, and companionship they provided to Bob during his time there.
