Robert Paul "Bob" Fournier

Robert Paul “Bob” Fournier, of Hingham, died peacefully, surrounded by those he loved, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 85.

Bob was born in Salem on March 19, 1940, he was raised in Peabody and was the son of the late Ulysses E. and Edith C. (Griffin) Fournier. Bob was educated at St. John the Baptist School, laying the foundation for a life marked by integrity, loyalty, and quiet generosity.

Bob lived a life of service. His military career was both unique and remarkable, spanning multiple branches and eras. He began in the National Guard before entering the United States Marine Corps. He later joined the United States Air Force, and eventually returned to the National Guard, where he was deployed during Desert Storm. Bob was a recipient of the Bronze Star for his deployment with the 1058 Transportation Unit. He also served during the Vietnam era. Bob’s commitment to his country was unwavering, and he carried his military values with him throughout his life. That commitment was recognized by the Veterans Services of Hingham when they named him “Veteran of the Year” in 2024.

After returning home from war, Bob worked for the telephone company before eventually taking on a role that suited both his discipline and leadership, managing the Hingham Armory.

Outside of his military and professional service, Bob nurtured a deep love for music. He and his wife, Eileen, shared a special passion for jazz, hosting the beloved late-night radio show “’Round Midnight”, where they played jazz from midnight until 6 AM. Their voices and music became a constant comfort to night-owls and jazz lovers throughout the community.

Those who knew Bob describe him as wonderful, sweet, smart, and honest. Someone who would always tell you the truth, even when it was the hard thing to say. Everyone who met him loved him. His generosity was profound but quiet. Bob never sought recognition for the good he did. He paid for meals, bought walkers for veterans, and helped countless people without ever mentioning his kindness. He was, at his core, a humble man who made the world better in ways most people never saw.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, proud veteran, and humble servant to others. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and quiet strength. Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered for the gentle but powerful impact he had on so many lives.

Bob was the beloved husband of Eileen A. McCracken Fournier, with whom he shared many loving years of marriage. He was the father of Paul Fournier of Falmouth, Michael Fournier of Falmouth, Scott Fournier and his wife Gianna of Sandwich, Shelby Thamasain and her husband Henrik of La Crescenta-Montrose, California, and Hugh Fournier and his wife Amber of Colorado. Bob was the stepfather of Steven McCracken of Hingham. He was the grandfather of Katherine and her partner David, and Stefan. Bob was the brother of David Fournier and his late wife Patricia of Florida. He was the dear friend of George Drillis and his wife Judy of Peabody. Bob is also survived by his former wife Barbara Fournier of Falmouth, many nieces, nephews, his grandchild, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his former wife, the late Marcia Principe.
