Robert J. Van Stratton

Robert J. Van Stratton of North Weymouth, passed away peacefully following a diagnosis last May of aggressive bladder cancer. He lived these last difficult months of his life with dignity and grace. Robert was 74 years old.

He grew up in Fairlawn, New Jersey and graduated from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in 1972. Robert worked in the human/social services field during his career – with traumatized children in the early years, and later, adults impacted by mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse. Robert had a caring heart, valued the dignity of all people, and had a great sense of humor. He was an avid runner and gym enthusiast, and loved to sit in the sun, whether on the porch or at the beach. Robert also loved living near the water and enjoyed many vacations at the Jersey Shore with his family. After moving to New England forty years ago, Robert became a devoted fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox and especially enjoyed his Sunday afternoons during the football season watching televised games.

Loving son of the late John F. and Edna (Koehler) Van Stratton. Brother of the late John E. (Jack) Van Stratton. Survived by his beloved wife, Terry Harrison, dear cousin Ruth and Terrence Ford of New York City, sister-in-law Lyn Van Stratton of Lakewood, Ohio, brother-in-law Frank and Peggy Harrison of Anthem, AZ, brother-in-law David and Kelly Harrison of Blufton, SC, sister-in-law Jeanmarie and Greg Shelton of Woodinville, WA and sister-in-law Susan Conway of Tonbridge, England.

While some of his close friends have pre-deceased him, Robert especially cherished his ongoing friendships with his childhood friend Howard (Max) Lakind of NYC and Geraldine Guardino, Cambridge, MA. Robert is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Kate, Jennifer, Wyatt, Elizabeth, Francis, Katie, Jessica, Samantha, Jack, Paige, Alexander, Zachary and Maddie.

A special thank you to Angela Chase, RN, and all the dedicated, compassionate staff of Norwell VNA/ Croi Health Hospice Service for their exceptional care.
