Roland W. Allison, a respected pillar of the Braintree community and a cherished family man, passed away on November 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary L. Allison (Taylor) and a guiding light for his children and grandchildren. Roland's legacy is one of dedication, service, and unwavering love for his family and country.
Born to David and Mary Leona Allison, Roland was the youngest of his 9 siblings. Though he is predeceased by his parents and siblings, the values they instilled in him lived on through his actions and the lives he touched. A proud graduate of Braintree High School, Roland furthered his education by earning a Bachelor's degree from Bunker Hill College, setting the stage for a life of commitment and hard work.
Roland honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War period, a testament to his patriotism and courage. After his military service, he joined the Registry of Motor Vehicles as a police officer. For over 40 years, Roland was known to be tough but fair, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and those he served. His demeanor as an officer was always that of a gentleman, reflecting his deep-seated integrity and sense of justice.
Beyond his professional life, Roland was a devoted family man. He and his wife, Rosemary, created a loving home for their children: Mark and his wife Donna Allison of Braintree, Peter Allison of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nancy Allison-Slater and her husband Michael of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the late Paul C. Allison. As a "Grampy," Roland's joy multiplied with the birth of each of his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished deeply.
Roland's interests and hobbies were as rich and varied as his life experiences. He was a longtime member and treasurer of the Braintree Yacht Club as well as a lifelong member of the Heritage United Methodist Church in Braintree. Roland and his beloved wife, Rosemary, created a lifetime of memories during their 68 years of marriage. In his later years, Roland found joy and camaraderie in playing bingo, an activity that brought laughter and friendship into his days.
A man of many interests, Roland also had a penchant for old war movies, a nod to his military background and the history he helped shape. He shared this love with his dear friend Boyd Martin, and together they would reminisce and reflect on the times that shaped their generation. Roland's presence in the lives of his many nieces and nephews was significant as well. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and love him.
