Ronald J. “Ronnie” Mollica, longtime resident of Quincy, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026. He was 80.

Ronnie was born in Reading, to Mary Constance (Cassilly) and Robert Mollica. After graduating Reading High School, he entered the service industry and travelled the country. He was living in Florida for almost 9 years when he met Donnarae (Hoey) in the 99 during a shift. The two hit it off and he cancelled his flight home to Florida. They were married 3 months later and settled in Quincy.

He will be remembered as a steady presence behind the bar and in the lives of so many who had the pleasure of knowing him. For more than 40 years, Ronnie dedicated himself to his work as a Bar Manager with 99 Restaurants, where he became far more than a familiar face, he became a friend, a confidant, and a constant. Known affectionately as “The Captain,” Ronnie had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Customers returned not just for a meal or a drink, but to see him, share a laugh, and enjoy the warmth and kindness he so naturally offered. He was hilarious and quick witted, always ready with the perfect remark at just the right moment. Just as memorable was his genuine friendliness and the way he never spoke poorly of anyone, choosing instead to uplift those around him.

Outside of work, Ronnie’s passions were just as enduring. A true baseball savant, he carried an encyclopedic knowledge of the game that amazed and delighted anyone lucky enough to talk sports with him. At home, his greatest joy came from the simple, meaningful moments spent with family, especially time with his beloved grandson. Whether cheering on the Red Sox, watching Jeopardy, or working through a crossword puzzle, Ronnie treasured these quiet traditions. His legacy is one of dedication, warmth, and a deep love for both his community and his family.

Beloved husband of 35 years to the late Donnarae Mollica (Hoey). Devoted father to Lauryn Kyne and John Mollica, both of Quincy. Adoring grandfather to Mark Kyne of Quincy. Loving brother to Robert Mollica (Dorie) of NH, the late Marcia DeSousa and her surviving husband, Dave, David Mollica (Donna) of NH, Richard Mollica (Pamela) of MD, Mark Mollica (Kim) of North Andover, Philip Mollica (Sara) of NH, Constance Littlefield (Del) of NH, and Patricia Mollica (partner Mike) of NH. Brother-in-law to Bill Hoey (Nancy) of Woburn, Jim Hoey (Carol) of Braintree, and Robyn Traietti (Vincent) of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ronnie’s family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ronnie’s name may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
