Celebration of Life
Abbott, Rose M. “Toni” (Choquette) of Hingham, died peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by family.
Rose’s life was guided by her love of family and faith. Beloved wife of 62 years to Charles B. Abbott of Hingham. Cherished mother of Charles P. Abbott of Kingston and his late wife Christine McGrath-Abbott, Julie Brown of Plymouth, and Sharon Abbott (wife Sara Zuiderveen) of Brooklyn, NY. Devoted “Mémère” and “Mama’s Mama” of Oliva McGrath, Emily McGrath-Abbott, Matthew Abbott, Michael Abbott and his wife Emily, Amanda Brown, Christopher Brown, Isabelle Brown, Evelyn Brown, Ellis Abbott, and Julien "Jules" Abbott. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased in death by her four siblings, Marie Zoufaly, Noella Littman, Anita Brown, and Bernard Choquette, and her beloved dog Elsa.
She was a devout Catholic and and active member of St. Paul’s Church in Hingham, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was a member of the Hingham Women’s Club and passionate about volunteering and caring for others. A registered nurse, Rose cared for the sick at Mass General Hospital and later at Queen Anne Nursing Home. She lived in the Netherlands for 3 years with her husband Charlie and joined the American Women’s Club and Canadian Women’s Club while there. Enthusiastic travelers, Rose and Charlie explored much of Europe together and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary. Rose was a positive, caring, and friendly woman who was always smiling. She made lifelong friends everywhere she went and will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday 3/19/2026 from 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday 3/20/2026 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in High Street Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rose may be made to St. Paul’s Church, 147 North Street, Hingham, MA 02043 or to Alzheimers Assn., MA Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
