Siu Hay Chan (formally Ho), 80, of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of friends and family in her home. Siu Hay was born to father Ho Tong and mother Lam Ching Yee in Canton (Guangzhou), China on October 14, 1945, as stated on her birth certificate, though she was actually born in 1944. The family resettled from Canton to Hong Kong in 1950 during the Chinese Civil War. She was a graduate of Pooi To Middle School (香港培道中学), and in 1967 received her degree in nursing from Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (雅麗氏何妙齡那打素醫院) in Hong Kong. She was a Hong Kong licensed mid-wife and registered nurse. She later served as a nurse at New England Medical Center (currently Tufts Medical Center) for 35 years.

Siu Hay Ho met Lapman Chan in Hong Kong and began a romance that lasted over 20 years across three countries. She immigrated to Canada and worked as a nurse there before arriving in Boston. Siu Hay and Lapman married on July 25, 1970, in Boston and resided on Mt. Vernon Street, Boston. In 1973, they became homeowners for the first time at 246 South Street in South Quincy and started a family, raising two sons. In 1977, the family moved to their current residence at 66 Meadowbrook Road in Wollaston. When Lapman was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1987, Siu Hay was steadfast in personally caring for him until his passing on February 10, 1989.

Siu Hay’s retirement was rich in activity, community and adventure. She returned to New England Medical Center to work as a translator and formed the Cancer Caring Group with Dr. Elaine Choi. She visited Quincy's elder care facilities and patients’ homes, listening to their stories and sharing her personal hope. She organized holiday and birthday parties, ran errands for those who could not, and shared the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a founding member of the Quincy Chinese Church of the Nazarene. For nearly a decade, she worked on election day as a City of Quincy poll worker. In 2013, Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. recognized her devotion to the community with the Gene Lee Unsung Hero Award. In her spare time Siu Hay was an avid traveler, sightseeing with her friends inside and outside the United States, including visits to Canada, China, Australia, Israel, Egypt, Italy, Monaco, Greece, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, South Dakota, New Mexico, California, and more. Among all these trips, her most memorable vacation was in November 2012 with her sons, daughter-in-law and grandchild to Thailand, Hong Kong and Macau.

In May 2012, she again returned to New England Medical Center where she was diagnosed with terminal stage 4 small cell lung cancer. She spent 14 years at the hospital she worked at to undergo multiple treatments and hospitalizations. Despite having a fatal disease with no hope of remission, Siu Hay never lost the desire to live, both relying on and reciprocating the love of friends and family. She was firm in her faith that “my life is governed by God, not through any other means and not even influenced by the doctor.”

Siu Hay is survived by her brother, Dr. Michael Ho and his wife Ellen of Toronto, Canada; her brother David Ho and his wife Kiri of Zhongshan, China; her sister Amy and her husband Patrick Nip of Hartford, Connecticut; and her sister Irene Ho of Hong Kong, China. Siu Hay and Lapman leave behind two sons: Tackey Chan of Quincy (State Representative); and Rockey Chan of Quincy (English Minister at the Chinese Baptist Church of Greater Boston), along with his wife Virginia of Quincy, and their son Justin Chan of Richmond, Virginia.
