Stella Claire Selig (LaFrance) of Quincy, formerly of Prince George, VA, and Estero, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92.
Born to Rose and Irenee LaFrance in St. Quentin, New Brunswick, Canada, Stella grew up on her family’s 70-acre farm alongside her eight siblings. At 24, she bravely moved to the United States on her own, not yet knowing a word of English. She worked as a caretaker at the rectory of St. Mary’s until she was established.
In the late 1950s, she married Donald Auger, and together they welcomed two sons, Dan and Mike. Stella worked nights while they were young, later transitioning to daytime factory work once her boys were in school. After she and Don parted ways, Stella met Freeman “Bud” Selig. They quickly formed a deep bond and were married in 1986. Ever resourceful and creative, Stella crafted her own wedding gown. In 1990, the couple retired to Florida, where they spent many happy years together and formed lifelong friendships. After Bud’s passing, Stella moved to Virginia to be near family while her son Mike was stationed there. In 2025, she settled in Massachusetts, once again close to both Dan and Mike.
Stella filled her days staying active, walking her neighborhood, enjoying time with friends, keeping social, and creating handmade knitted and crocheted gifts for those she loved. She was brave, crafty, resourceful, and one of the most memorable and feisty French Canadians you’d ever have the pleasure of meeting. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Beloved wife to the late Freeman “Bud” Selig. Devoted mother to Dan Auger and his wife Linda of Braintree and Mike Auger of Plymouth. Adoring “Memere” to Alex Auger, Seth Aster, Abby Auger, Frankie Maggiore, Carmen Maggiore, and Paul Maggiore. Loving sister to Noella, Simeon, Ginette, Richard, Girard, Clement, Aimee, and Obilynn. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 9-11 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Funeral service will be celebrated immediately following the visitation at 11 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital), Weymouth. Cremation will follow.
