In Loving Memory

Stephanie J. Peterson

July 24, 1941 - June 4, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our dear mother Stephanie J. (Kettell) Peterson, formerly of North Quincy, MA and recently of Weymouth, MA. Stephanie was born on July 24, 1941, in Jamaica Plain, MA to Dororthy (Osborne) and Thomas Kettell. She was one of five children, predeceased by Thomas Kettell, Shirley Kettell, Richard Kettell and Maryann Mahony. Stephanie was also predeceased by her Aunt Phyllis Osborne whom she loved dearly.

While raising her four children as a single parent, the home she created was the place to be for all the neighborhood kids and she was affectionally known as “Mrs. P”. So much fun was had by all and when she made her famous meatballs, the dinner table always had a few more place settings. Stephanie had a big heart, often bringing home clients for dinner while working at the Quincy Council on Aging; she was one of the city’s first outreach workers back in 1979.

As her children got older, Stephanie pursued her life passion of becoming a nurse. Her love for nursing came from her growing up at her grandmother’s nursing home, Parley Vale in Jamaica Plain. She loved the nurses there and learned firsthand what good nursing was all about. While attending Quincy College/UMass Boston, Stephanie worked two jobs and earned her Registered Nursing degree in her early 40’s. She spent over 30 years at Mass General Hospital as a nurse in Neurology, finally retiring at the age of 75. We thought she would never retire as she loved her job and the patients so much.

During her retirement, Stephanie needed a purpose and volunteered at a hospice organization, at Special Olympics events and finally at The Arc of the South Shore in Weymouth working with older adults with developmental disabilities. The Arc was her favorite place to be as she taught arts and crafts, reading and sign language to the clients. She had so many great stories and had great love for her group of “kids”.

Stephanie is survived by and will be deeply missed by her four children: Dotty Peterson and her spouse Kelly Sullivan of Amesbury, Donna Peterson of Weymouth, Fred Peterson of Quincy and Deb (Peterson) Giannotti and her partner Rick Giannotti of Hanson; her two grandchildren, Adam and Ashley Giannotti and her great-grandson Luca Giannotti. She is also survived by her godson Jack Mahony of New Hampshire as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00AM at St. Ann Parish, 757 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations to Special Olympics would be greatly appreciated, https://support.specialolympics.org
