IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen M.
Barrett
January 16, 1960 – February 16, 2026
Stephen M. Barrett, of Dorchester, died suddenly, on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Boston Medical Center. He was 66.
Stephen was born in Boston on January 16, 1960, and was the son of the late Edward "Sonny" Barrett and Barbara A. (Kozak) Crowe.
Raised in South Boston and later in Dorchester, Stephen carried the spirit of Boston with him wherever he went. A proud graduate of Dorchester High School, he valued learning from an early age and remained intellectually curious throughout his life. Exceptionally intelligent and endlessly inquisitive, Stephen could often be found with a book in hand, happily immersed in history, science, or whatever subject had recently captured his attention.
Stephen found joy in life’s everyday pleasures. He loved to walk everywhere and anywhere. The streets of Dorchester were his pathways of reflection, exercise, and connection to the neighborhood he cherished. Whether heading to his favorite sub shop, stopping by 7-11 for a Slurpee, or picking up a cup of coffee, Stephen appreciated the comfort of familiar places and routines.
A devoted fan of Chinese cuisine, he never passed up the chance for a good meal, especially egg foo young, his absolute favorite. Simple meals brought him genuine happiness.
At home, Stephen enjoyed settling in to watch science fiction shows, captivated by stories that stretched the imagination and explored new worlds. His love of sci-fi reflected his thoughtful mind and curiosity about the universe and humanity’s place within it.
Stephen will be remembered for his intelligence, his love of reading, his steady presence on neighborhood sidewalks, and his appreciation for the small comforts that make life meaningful. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stephen was the brother of Gayle Johnson and Rick of Weymouth, and the late Kelly Crowe who died in 2015. He was the uncle of Cristiana Bianco and her fiancé Robert Swan of Marshfield. Stephen was the nephew of Rita McCarthy of Weymouth, and Richard Kozak and his wife Marjorie of Quincy. He was the cousin of Irene McCarthy of Weymouth, Kevin McCarthy of New Hampshire, Lynne Demitta of Taunton, and Scott McCarthy of New Hampshire.
Following cremation, Stephen will be interred privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Stephen's name to the charitable organization of one's choice.
