Stephen A. Cahill of Plymouth, formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 2, 2025. He was 77.
He was born in Boston to Helen (Kolson) and Vincent Cahill and raised in Quincy. He attended North Quincy High School, where he met Helen (McLaughlin), his best friend and wife of 52 years. Together they graduated in the Class of 1967. After high school, Stephen furthered his education with an associate’s degree in business. He then entered the army reserves.
After serving, he earned a managerial position with the First National Bank of Boston. After a couple of years in banking, Stephen wanted to return to something more familiar. He remembered growing up working alongside his father in produce and decided to make a name for himself in the industry. He opened Cahill’s Farmers Exchange and ran the company with honesty, hard work and integrity for 43 years before retiring.
Stephen cherished his time with family above all else. A devoted husband and father, he never missed one of his son Stephen’s golf tournaments or hockey games, no matter the distance. His love for the ocean was lifelong, and he always dreamed of one day owning a home by the water. After years of early mornings, long days, and tireless dedication, he made that dream a reality. There, he found peace in fishing and simply enjoying the sea.
Stephen also loved to entertain. He often hosted dinner parties where he delighted in cooking for family and friends. With his natural talent for storytelling, he was frequently the life of the gathering, bringing laughter, warmth, and unforgettable memories to all who joined him.
Beloved husband of 52 years to Helen E. Cahill (McLaughlin) of Plymouth. Devoted father to Stephen C. Cahill and his wife Jessica of Duxbury. Adoring “P” to Lilah and Brooks Cahill of Duxbury. Loving brother to Joanne Lydon and her late husband James of Cohasset, and Randall Cahill and his wife Cheryl of Plymouth. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Helen (Kolson) and Vincent Cahill and his brother Richard Cahill and his wife Carol.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11 AM on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at St. Agatha’s Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, MA, 02186.
