Stephen Francis Campbell, 60, of Hull, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, following an illness.

Born June 25, 1966, Stephen was the beloved son of Colin and Lorraine Campbell. He grew up in Allston/Brighton and remained deeply connected to his family and his Boston roots throughout his life.

Stephen was an adventurer from a very young age. At just 18, he traveled to Rock in Rio, beginning what would become a lifetime of travel, exploration, and unforgettable experiences. In 1984, he began his career with Marriott Corp. at the Copley Marriott in Boston. In 1989, at the age of 23, he transferred to San Francisco to be part of the opening team for the new Marriott. The hotel opened on the very day of the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake, an experience that became one of the many remarkable stories he carried with him throughout his life.

San Francisco was home to Stephen for more than 30 years. Following September 11, 2001, he began a new chapter when he joined the United States Merchant Marine. He became an internationally credentialed Merchant Mariner and spent the next two decades sailing out of California. His work at sea took him around the world and gave him countless stories and friendships. His last trip at sea was aboard the MV Cape Vincent in November 2023.

Travel was one of Stephen’s greatest passions. Thailand held a special place in his heart, and he loved traveling throughout Southeast Asia. Wherever he traveled, he seemed to find people to talk to, stories to share, and friendships to make. Stephen was a true conversationalist. He loved to talk, loved to learn, and could spend hours reading the newspaper and keeping up with what was happening in the world.

Stephen was also a lifelong Boston and San Francisco sports fan, especially devoted to the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, San Francisco Giants, and 49ers. He was an original Giants season ticket holder beginning in 2000, sharing that experience with a group of close friends. He loved sports of all kinds, music—particularly the oldies—and going to the movies. He especially enjoyed taking the boat from Hull into Boston just to see a movie. He also loved swimming, collecting baseball cards, and trying his luck with sports betting.

Above all, Stephen was a kind and generous person. He was always willing to help someone out, and he had a way of making friends wherever he went. After returning to Massachusetts, he made his home in Hull, where he quickly became known throughout the Hull community. From Brighton to Hull, and from Massachusetts to California and the many places he traveled, Stephen touched the lives of many people.

Stephen loved his nephews, Colin and Conor Denizkurt, and loved spoiling them with gifts from his travels. His family looked forward to the stories he would bring home from his adventures at sea and around the world. Stephen is survived by his parents, Colin and Lorraine Campbell; his sister Tracy Campbell; his sister Nancy Denizkurt and her husband, Kemal Denizkurt; his beloved nephews, Colin and Conor Denizkurt; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends from Massachusetts to California and beyond.

Stephen was a registered donor with the New England Donor Services. In keeping with his generous spirit, we hope that his gift will help improve and save the lives of others. It is a final act of kindness from a man who spent his life helping others and making connections wherever he went.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main St, Weymouth, MA (Route 18, opposite South Shore Hospital).

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, Weymouth, MA.

Stephen will be cremated, with a private burial at Mount Hope Cemetery to take place at a later date.
