Stephen Sandonato, 60, passed away suddenly at home on February 22, 2026.

Born to the late Sam Sandonato and Virginia (Tobin) Sandonato, Stephen was a proud union carpenter with Local 327 who believed in hard work, loyalty, and doing things the right way. He built his life the same way he built everything else — solid, straightforward, and without shortcuts.

He was outspoken, stubborn, competitive, and quick to say exactly what he thought — whether anyone asked or not. He loved his Chevy, cigars, time in his garage, the Knights of Columbus card games, and golf tournaments — proudly announcing, “I hit the ball tonight,” and that was good enough for him. He acted like he didn’t care about anything. On the inside, he had the biggest heart in the room.

He showed up for school pickups, lacrosse games, surprise lunch drop-offs, and backyard projects. He helped. He complained while helping — but he always helped. He was quietly generous, often paying for strangers’ meals without wanting them to know who had done it.

Most of all, he loved his granddaughters, Aubrey and Skyla, who were the center of his world.

Stephen is survived by his daughter, Sonya Sandonato; his granddaughters, Aubrey and Skyla Sandonato; his brother Paul Sandonato and wife Mary Jane; nieces Tara and Sami; and Jimmy Hatch, whom he loved as a son. He also leaves behind Cindy D’Andrea, his former wife and cherished friend, and the memory of their beloved dogs Charlie (Chuck), Gracie, and Max. He is also survived by sister Diane Sandonato.

He wouldn’t want a sentimental farewell — just honest stories, laughter, and people speaking their minds.

And for the record, it’s spelled Stephen.

A wake will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Weymouth. A Celebration of Life will follow Monday, March 2, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Weymouth, 25 Chauncy Street.
