Sue Ann Costello, of South Boston, formerly of Grosse Ile, Michigan, died peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the St. Joseph Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dorchester. She was 78.

Sue was born in Grosse Ile, Michigan on March 10, 1945, and was the daughter of the late William and Vilas (Ford) Costello. She was raised in Grosse Ile, Michigan and attended local schools. Sue continued her education at Michigan State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in education. Later in life, Sue attended Simmons College, where she earned her master’s degree. After Michigan State, Sue began her teaching career. She was employed by Boston Public Schools and taught middle school education at many schools throughout the City of Boston. Sue retired in 2005 after 28 years of service to the community.

Sue was an intelligent and generous woman. She had a great sense of humor, while being sassy, strong, and caring. Sue’s life lessons and example serve as part of her legacy that continues through her family. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late Michael D. Horan, who died in March of 2020. The two married on April 17, 1973, in Grosse Ile, Michigan. Together they shared 47 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Michaela C. Horan of Dorchester and Moira C. Horan and her husband Donal O’Gallachoir of Quincy. Sue was preceded in death by her siblings: Bill, Carol, and Judy Costello. She is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, October 29, 2023, 12-2 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

Her funeral service will be celebrated on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 2 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy.

Interment is private.
