Ted Sandy, a humble and devoted man of faith, passed away after a long life defined by service, love, and quiet strength.

Born in Cairo, West Virginia, Ted grew up on the family farm alongside his older brother and two younger sisters. Working the land with his father shaped his steady character, while his mother, both a schoolteacher and postmistress, instilled in him a deep respect for learning and community.

Ted served two years of Active Duty in the Navy at the end of World War II as an Electronics Technician. Throughout his service, he and his high‑school sweetheart, Carol, wrote letters to each other every single day. Less than two weeks after his Honorable Discharge, Ted married Carol, beginning a 78‑year marriage marked by unwavering devotion.

He is survived by three of their five children, all of whom regard him as the best father imaginable.

Ted went to the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio, majoring in Electrical Engineering. He began his professional career at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington and later became one of the first employees of the newly formed MITRE Corporation in Bedford. His work reflected his steady discipline, sharp mind, and commitment to excellence.

Faith was the cornerstone of Ted’s life. Always active in his church, he felt a profound calling to ministry. While working full‑time and raising a family, he studied nights and weekends at Gordon‑Conwell Theological Seminary, ultimately becoming an ordained minister. He served as pastor of the South Chatham Community Church, where his gentle spirit, compassion, and quiet charm touched everyone he met.

For the past 20 years, Ted has lived at Linden Ponds Senior Living Community, where he is universally loved by residents and staff alike. His ready smile, accepting nature, and deep kindness made him a cherished presence.

Ted’s life was a testament to faith, devotion, humility, and love. He lived every day with purpose, grace, and gratitude, and the countless people who knew him are better for it.

A Graveside service will be celebrated on Thursday 8/20/2026 at 11:30 AM in the Shawsheen Cemetery-Bedford (15 Shawsheen Rd, Bedford, MA 01730).
