Benson, Thomas J., Sr. of Quincy, formerly of Savin Hill, died peacefully on April 11, 2026.

Tom lived a life centered on his family. He was devoted to his wife of 62 years and took great pride in his three sons, their spouses, and his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He attended as many family events as he could and valued time spent together above all else.

Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving for over six years during the Vietnam era. He held Boston College High School close to his heart, as all three of his sons graduated from there. He was also honored as a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame for his work as a football coach. Supporting BC High through tuition and donations was the best money he ever spent. Beginning when his sons were young, Tom dedicated more than 20 years to Quincy Youth Hockey, serving as a volunteer, coach, and later as president of the board. As his sons grew and their circle of friends expanded, Tom remained connected to many of them, becoming a steady and supportive father figure. He enjoyed fishing behind the family’s summer home in Falmouth and made sure each of his grandchildren learned how to fish. Raised in the Savin Hill section of Boston, Tom was proud of his roots and carried that pride throughout his life. Tom was also a 67-year member of IBEW Local 103 with many of those years spent working at the MBTA. He will be remembered for his generosity, his kindness, his sense of humor, and as a true “man for others.”

Beloved husband of Mary (Donahue) Benson of Quincy. Loving father of Tom J. Benson (Fiona) of Scituate, David C. (Karen) of Canton, and Michael D. (Allison) of N. Quincy. Brother of the late Alice Wing. Brother-in-law to Kathleen Ciavarro of Mashpee and Agnes Cotter of Quincy. Papa to Molly, Grace, Colman, Celia, Samantha, Madeleine, Liam, Jacqueline, Sean, Colin and great papa to Taylor. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday 4/20/2026 from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Tuesday 4/21/2026 prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Cremation to follow.
